02 Mar Where did that year go.

Well March 1st saw us pop a cork and light a solo candle on a cake to celebrate our first birthday.  It has been a brilliant year and a real eye opener for us. Looking back we had cracking weather last summer, in fact right from the get go.  As I sit here in the rain, I feel perhaps we were lulled into a false sense of security.

We have had a wide range of breeds here ( all small or medium) but the overwhelming breed of choice appears to be Cockerpoo.  Obviously with our own Walter being a curly handsome Cockerpoo we completely understand the attraction as his entire reason for getting up in the morning is to give joy, cuddles and as much affection as you can deal with. Another feature of the Cockerpoo is that their enthusiasm for walks gives them the pulling power of a pack of horses.  Don has developed all kinds of ab muscles from taking out a pack of hounds each day !

This year we have developed a little family of regulars and have often been fully booked, in fact we had our first full day within 4 months of opening and are now regularly having to turn people away or encourage early bookings for holidays etc, so whilst I’m here, I’ll take the opportunity to prompt you to get in touch if you are planning a summer holiday as dates are already getting busy and we are full for the entire Easter Break coming up.

So, on we go to year two.  We’re excited to meet lots of new hounds and look forward to seeing old friends back at the Lodge where they can sit on the swing seat, lounge on one of the many beds around the house and garden or just crash out on our toes when we finally get a mo to sit down with a lovely cup of tea.

07 Jun Dog Boarding is getting busy.

We have hit our three month anniversary and it is wonderful to see the dog boarding side of Little Dog Lodgings is building nicely. We have been delighted to welcome several lovely little doggies into our home, some for one night others for a full week whilst mum and dad go on holiday. This has lead us to think about offering a special holiday rate rather than just working on a day rate as more and more people are planning their summer break, so we are delighted to introduce the following flexibility into our boarding rates.

1 and 2 days £35 per night

3 – 7 nights – £30 per night

8 nights +      £27 per night

We always ask to meet you and your dog before accepting a new visitor to the lodge and assuming we are all happy to move forward, your dog will have the full run of our house/garden and can sleep where ever they feel most comfortable. This approach has led to many happy and peaceful night here at Little Dog Lodgings and more than a few moments of waking up nose to nose with a guest who is wriggling themselves upwards the pillows ( dont blame them as they are super comfy! )

05 Apr Little Dog Lodgings – Our first month of Doggie Day Care

Well, that went past in a blur!  Our first month of doggie day care and overnight boarding has come and gone and we have been somewhat overwhelmed by the support we have received and the level of interest that is out there for good quality day care for the dogs of Milton Keynes.

On our very first day Ruby arrived as her owner wanted to give Ruby the opportunity to spend time with other dogs so that she could learn to socialize and gain confidence around other dogs, well that was 6 weeks ago and as I look up from my seat in the garden I can see Ruby chilling out on one of the doggie day beds after a morning of running around with the other dogs that are here with us at the Lodge today. Ruby is a beautiful little poochon who we look forward to seeing each week.

Our aim here at Little Dog Lodgings is to give a safe and fun place for lovely little hounds, well we say little but that doesn’t have to mean tiny. Our own cockerpoo Walter has just turned one and he has grown much bigger than we thought possible (!) so he has become our benchmark,so long as your dog isn’t bigger than Walter then they are welcome to stay with us.

So what have we learnt:

Regardless of what food you put down, every dog has to check out each others feast to make sure they aren’t being shortchanged in the kibble department !

Long extending leads guarantee you will be twirling round and unravelling your self throughout the walk, time to buy some fixed length leads I think… although, they do love the freedom that the extending leads offer.

Even the prettiest girly dogs can have a significant wind problem!

Walter is turned out to be the most generous host!  He shares everything with each guest here and has got used to seeing mummy and daddy cuddle every hound as if they were our own.

That you can fall in love in a heartbeat! All of our guests have been delightful, but we had a tiny little girl called Rosa arrive for a weeks holiday and she became an instant best friend.

That a superkingsized bed is just about big enough for Walter to lay width ways and still have space for a little guest who is used to sleeping with people.

The road to a harmonious day starts with a lovely long walk around either Lodge Lake or the Tear Drop lakes.  Any new visitors join us on the walk and it gives everyone a chance to meet one another in a neutral space. By the time we get home the pack has been formed and we are good to go for the day ahead.

So if you are looking for doggie day care in Milton Keynes and want to give your dog a home from experience whilst you are away on business or holiday, then give us a call. We are limited by our license with the Milton Keynes council to have 6 dogs here so places will become more limited as time goes on, certainly if the number of enquires we are already receiving is anything to go by.  We look forward to hearing from you.  07747 811866 or by email to: hello@littledoglodgings.co.uk

Catch up again soon.
Sally and Don.
